Parthenon is the main temple on the Acropolis citadel in Athens and it is built in honour of the goddess Athena, Athens protector. Acropolis in Athens has a very long history, but the Parthenon was built in the fifth century BC and has since had a turbulent life. It has been bombed, burned, used as ammunition chamber and exposed to thousands of years of pollution, but it still stands, proud, white and majestic. Maybe this is exactly why it has become a symbol of all the great things we have inherited from antiquity; Culture, philosophy, knowledge of medicine, mathematics, democracy. Very much the same things as the Goddess Athena her self represents: wisdom, courage, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, just warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, the arts, crafts, and skill. This is also the reason why Acropolis is, Greece’s biggest tourist attraction More people are visiting the Acropolis today than ever before, because there are not many places in the world where you can feel the presence of history, as when you walk around the Parthenon on the Acropolis.
